Conversion tech in SA8300HD?

295 Views 0 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  Bruce Fan
I have a SA8300HD hooked up to my HLP4663W via HDMI. I am trying to determine which has the best tech to convert signals.

I prefer to have the STB set to 720p only and set the DLP to Expand mode to do pixel-to-pixel mapping with very low overscan rather than using AUTO DVI-HDMI. However, I'm not sure if letting the SA STB do the conversion from 1080i and 480i is better than the TV. I don't really see much of a difference aside from the increased overscan on anything but 720p (FOX and ABC) but there is a delay when switching between formats when on passthrough.

Any comments?

FYI - connected via HDMI I can only select 1080i, 720p and 480p widescreen in the set-up therefore my SD channels are upconverted by the STB regardless of what I do.

Many thanks!
