Converting an ECP wired remote to IR remote...

481 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Zolzar
Guys, I have an ECP with one of the newer remotes (soft buttons) that I need to convert to an IR remote. The remote already has the IR LEDs installed. The only difference I can see so far is that the cable that's attached when the remote is installed on the back of the projector provides 12V while the 4 AA batteries (that you install when the cable isn't there) provide 6V.

This thing just doesn't work without it's umbilical cord yet. I notice that there are three wire jumpers on the PCB also, one of them has been cut.

Any words of wisdom? Thanks..

Cary

PS. Where have all the old posts gone? I did a search on ECP AND remote and came up dry. I *know* there was a thread this year regarding this.

Cary, Here's a link to the thread you were talking about. Unfortunately that's all I can share since I don't have the ECP (or remote :)) anymore. Hope this helps!

Thanks a million Jay!! I couldn't find that thread! It's the wrong remote, but it at least gives us hope of getting this one to work.

Cary
I did a search on my username and anything neewer than a year. After that I tried to go back and search for anything in the thread title, and you're right...it doesn't come up. I even typed in "diy ecp remote" and got nothing. Hmmm....
Cary,

I have a converted remote that Jay put together. If you need pics let me know.

John
Hey John, is it the newer kind of remote with the "soft" buttons?? I'm stuck here man, if you need me to send a pic of the remote I'm talking about I can do that. Thanks...

Actually, if *anyone* has that kind of remote, whether they've converted it or not, I just need a picture of it. I'm positive that the remote stuck on the back of the PJ and the IR remote are one in the same, I just need to know what components are added/removed on the PC board.

Cary
Cary,

I already did a thread on this... looks as though it was lost on the switchover to the new server...

Buy an 2 IR emitters and a 9V battery clip from RS. I have pics and will try to post. You also need a resistor but I can;t for the life of me remember what the value was. I remember I used a pot to get the value I needed...

Sean

You also need a pot but I don't remember it's value...
Hey Sean, I couldn't get into the site without registering. I don't mind doing that, but I think you're talking about the old remote (9V battery). This remote, from an ECP4500, takes 4 AA batteries and is a little bigger than the old ones. Got any of those??

Cary
Cary,

Nope, but it would be interesting to see if the internals are the same. AA are 1.8v apiece if memory serves, and 1.8 times 4 is fairly close to 9v. Pop the case and see what it looks like!

Sean

BTW the converted wired remote from my ECP 3100 works fine with my ECP 4501... Something to think about.
I think M NEWMAN once told me that the difference was hi/lo frequency...that all the soft buttoned ones were hi and that there was a choice in the older hard buttons of hi/lo.
I'd rather have the hard button one in the dark. I've gotten to the point where I can locate a key by feel alone in the dark of the room...

Sean
Its Simple....

This sounds like the remote for the later models - All you have to do is unplug the cable, put in batteries and set the links..

There should be 4 jumpers set like so (= Jumper)

JP1 - 3=2 1

JP2 - 3 2=1

JP3 - 3 2=1

JP4 - 3=2 1

For IR and batteries all you do is move JP4 - 3 2=1

JP1 set protocol A or B (My info is for A)

JP2 & JP3 say do not move...

JP4 is for wired/IR

This is from page 2.9 from the 8000 manual I found at
http://www.snaggs.com/projector/disp...le=ElectroHome

I have also Modded an EPL 4100 from wired to IR, but that require parts (2 IR LED's,10R resistor & 9V battery Adapter. - Yes it works...;)

So the conversion for an ECP would be the same as a Marquee? I guess that would make sense...they did have the smarts to make the remote wired/wireless so why not make the same remote config for both the Marquee and later ECP.
Somehow I missed Fido_UK's post to this thread (I usually subscribe to the threads that I really care about).

Anyway, Thank You!! I'll try this out today.

Cary
Cary,

Sorry about not replying to your question sooner. My remote is for an ECP and it has the hard buttons.
