I'm in a bit of a bind with cabling and am forced to do this. What are the highest quality methods of accomplishing this?

What are the most economical methods?

This conversion must be to a DIGITAL signal since the HDMI cable in my chain will not pass analog video from a DVI cable...

Thanks for any help on this one!

Anyone know anything baout this:

No the celing is closed in already and there is no way to run more cables through it, i'm stuck with a single HDMI. I need to figure out a way to HD from my component outs on my cbale box to my projector using the HDMI cable.

My projector is DVI so clearly i need to use an adapter on that end...

Thanks for any insight you may have!

Gotcha,

I would say your situation is not necessarily that dire.

What I would do is invest in a scaler that will pass through the HD (or process it) and transcode/scale SD to HDMI/DVI. Not such a hard task. iScan HD, Lumagen and Crystalio are all viable options, for example. They all have DVI in that you can use to input HDMI/DVI and then pass through DVI/HDMI into your display.

Crystalio and Lumagen will process your HD. Once the firmware is ready, the Lumagen will give you full deinterlacing for 1080i. Both will process 720p. The iScan HD will passthrough your HD.

Note that all of these units still have problems with HDCP.

He is looking to convert component HD to DVI/HDMI so a passthrough wouldn't work. It needs to pretty much processes the component HD and output as DVI so the iScan wouldn't get it done.

The device you linked appears to only scale 480i signals, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Any scaler that would do what you want is likely to be very high $. My recommendation would be to cut off one end of the HDMI cable and use the cut end to pull through a DVI-I cable instead. You can purchase this cable with a connector on one end and the other end bare just for pullling through walls. Then when you've pulled the DVI cable through you attach a connecter to the bare end and Voila! You're set for just about any scenario and the only cost was for the extra DVI cable.

Sorry, I didn't notice - you're 100% right.

OK, time for plan B.

Option1: HD LEEZA, it will scale HD Component to DVI.

Option2: Lumagen/Crystallio - for the time being both will do HD, but will be limited to bob (a future version of the HDP series will support full HD deinterlacing).

This is somewhat the same scenario as I am in.

I want to run just a dvi cable to my pj. I will have hdtv from my cable box on component cables--will a Vision DVI allow me to input that signal and then send it over dvi to my pj at 720p? My cable box will allow output of 1080i or 720p but I figured 720p to the pj would be the best bet as its the pj's panel size.

Ofer,

Not sure what you mean by process HD over component. It can scale all inputs except for the RGB pass-through (and maybe the add-on DVI card). I've been using it for Firewire and OTA, but I will try component and VGA later this evening to verify.
