Converting to Divx, What software (tried GKnot)

Hey Guys,

What program do you all use to encode dvds - > avi?

I am trying to convert many tv shows that I have on DVD to divx (family guy, simpsons, etc). Back in the day I used to use Gordian Knot, however, when I downloaded and installed it the other day I noticed that it now crashes all the time and I can't get it to finish a movie (mux audio with virtual dub etc) I dont know if this is due to codecs or an error in the program itself.

I really want to get this stuff on divx so that I can keep each episode on the PC in the bedroom to watch when I want (without having to load the dvd and such) right now I have the DVDs on the PC but I want to free some HDD space.

Thanks

chances are it's an error in your computer, since there are tons of people out there using it. Have you tried autoGK? very similair, but a little more automated. I am using the current version with no porblems.
I agree! So to rid myself of this error I formatted the other day, installed the new drivers and reinstalled GK. Still the same problem!! I then deicded to put the software on my HTPC and use a remote desktop to send files to it to encode... same problem!... darn... well I will give the other software a shot.

Thanks

thanks autogk works... and seems to work just as well as the more complex version for my needs.
