Copying recorded programs.

I'm new to this forum, so please excuse me if this question has already been asked. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8420HDC DVR through Time Warner that has been acting up. It appears that I'm going to have to swap it out for a new unit. I have lprograms recorded (for my Wife) that I would like to save. Is it possible to copy these to an external hard drive through the eSATA port, than transfer them to the new unit? Thanks

No, each STB has unique encription codes and an external HD will only work with the STB that was attached when the program was recorded. If you must save these programs go to the Home Theater Computer section and check out the 2 threads on the Hauppauge HD PVR.
