How much of the 200x box pricing was based upon the cost of adding Firewire ports to the box. Way back when, the 2020 had them removed to lower the price of the box. At that point the priced dropped by about $500. Some of that was the 20 hours versus 30 hours of the 2004, but how much of a price premium did Firewire cost me?

Cheers

Stay tuned folks, you know this won't be A.S.'s last post on the subject of the firewire ports!

My research is that the firewire ports run about $5.00 each (from a magazine article a few months back).

As a (still waiting) future Replay owner, I believe it's a *huge* competitive advantage and one that I communicated to someone from a Marketing company that contacted me about my attraction/decision-making process.

Frankly once PVRs support a direct 10/100Base-T connection that I can hook up to the internet through my DSL/Cable-modem, THEN the technology has crossed-the-chasm and the vision of channel-updates and streaming PPV movies down into my Replay box has become a viable reality.

Replay guys...do that...and become richer than kings. All I want is the first machine that can do all that....seriously.

After searching through the group I found:

Basically the same as the commentary going around today. Cost was estimated at $20. So not too much. But I contend that the loss of Firewire is going to cost Replay in the long run. Replay's earliest adopters got the shaft. If you go and look at the posts regarding Firewire and Replay's own web site (gone now I'm sure) you'd see the intent and hope all of us had, and you'd see the reasons some of us bought Replay over Tivo.

Too bad for me...

Cheers
