Could use some advice on my soffits if anyone cares to give opinions

I have been looking at images of how people build soffits around the ceiling of their home theater.   I have tried to draw two different variations of what I could do, but I am not crazy about either. I think they would look ok, but I don't really know.  My framing is finished for the most part, other than this.  My theater is 14.5 by 19.5 and the ceiling is a total of 8 feet, unfinished. No hanging duct work, or anything, just a true eight foot ceiling.  At the front of my theater on both sides, is a small av closet on the left, and b/ray, dvd, misc closet on the right side, facing towards the screen.  I want to build something like a 16 inches wide, 6 inches high soffit so I can put crown mold that doesn't reach the ceiling. In that I would like to put rope lights, like I see others doing.

I was really hoping to build an arch above the screen between the two closets, but don't know if I can do both an arch and soffit and make it look ok.  There is an 8 inch riser in the back for elevated seating, and a small 4 inch stage at the front if that helps.

In this image, the red is proposed soffit, and the blue is the proposed arch. The soffit only goes to the closet and stops and doesn't go across the front of the room at all. The color is just to make it easy to find, not the color I am painting. :)

In this image, the red is proposed soffit, and there is no arch. The soffit goes to the closet and continues to flow all the way around the room.

If anyone has suggestions or favors one of these, please let me know. Or, completely change it up and suggest something else.  Thank you so much!!!

Do you have images that show the screen wall for each of these designs? The transition around the closet and how the arch works are going to be the most important visual elements, IMO. This is for a screen hanging directly on the wall, right? Where are speakers?

I have these, if you can use some imagination.  I have 125 inches total, and I gave myself about 16 inches on each side of the screen to put 10 inch wide polk rc85i speakers.  The center channel is going under the screen.  Exactly how high to mount the screen is another topic all together, I don't know the answer to that yet.  The screen is going to be mounted on the wall, yes. I didn't plan on spending the extra money for an acoustically transparent screen.  I just drew this in five minutes, it isn't exactly to scale or accurate.  I was going to use a 16:9 screen, simply because I don't understand what the other type is, the 2.35:1 ? Or 3:4.  I am VERY new to this. I am just now getting to the fun detailed stuff.  Thank you a ton for your advice and help in way, shape, or form :)

The view of the front with the arch and no soffit above it.

The view of the front if I don't have an arch, and use the soffit all the way around the room.

Also, it probably doesn't matter, but maybe it does.  I wanted to mention, when I saw closet, I don't actually mean a door opening. I am going to custom make an opening in the wall, with a black cabinet on the back, bottom, top, and sides, and then use a VERY dark gray glass door with push-to-open closers, if that makes any sense. :)  That is true for both sides.

I built an arch in front for the proscenium similar to what you describe, with dimensions somewhat similar for room width and height (16' wide x 8' high)

Heres a pic that shows the rough in so to speak. And a finished pic here .

My suggestion would be to bring your arch out to the front of the "Closets" you described, letting the arch and soffits create a "square" ceiling inset.

If I remember correctly the soffits in the pics were ~20" wide and ~ 9" deep or so to give you an idea.

Good luck

knkkx, wow, that is awesome. You have more in your woodwork than I will probably have in my whole theater. :)  That is really nice.  Thank you for that tip. I am going to redraw it and see what it looks like.
