Not bragging, just informing. The new Panasonic 7UY series is close to the new Samsung prices. I was set on a Samsung DLP with HD2+ (5674), but this model is obviously having problems.
I would not trust a model that has been delayed for months. Plasma prices are dropping heavily and are within reach for many now. I was going to buy a 5674 which would ahve run around $4200. Got a Panasonic Plasama 50PHD7UY for $4600. I am very happy.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. The plasma would be a bit smaller than I would like but I think it would have better image quality. Not having to replace a lamp makes up for higher initial cost.

Nope, that's the HD version (50PHD). The ED version is 42", and the "H" is replaced by "W". PWD7uy. That TV can be had for less than half the price of the 50PHD (through a number of forum sponsors).
My understanding is that Plasmas lose brightness with age. What made you pull the trigger anyway? Few TV hours per day = acceptable life? May return it in 30 days?
I got mine at 1800Plasmas, though many people are having success with TVauthority. I have not heard one negative comment in the plasma forum about this model and I love it.
Answer to kenhdtv. The 50PHD7UY is rated at 60,000 hours which is loses half its brightness. That is about 8 hours a day for 20 years. Note, the new 7UY series has a new burn in technology which is quite re-assuring.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you are basically getting a 'monitor' with no frills but adaptability features. You even have to buy a stand for any mountng scheme. Is that true? I saw one table mount stand (3rd party I believe) that was 299...that is 1/2 to 1/5 cheaper than what is available from panny for any mount.
A very impressive display apparently from the reviews I've read. I see many online ads in the mid 3000 dollar range.
I would not be too keen on having to buy plug-in boards which I am sure are quite expensive. But having the expansion available is a nice feature.
My needs demand OTA and Sat. SD/HD..(which Dish/Cable) can provide, and a good progessive input for DVD, ala components I suppose. It can accommodate that as it comes out of the box, correct? I thought I read the components in were BNC...that is not a problem in itself but just a point.
