Though I've enjoyed chiklis in the Shield as well, a great character, I lost interest at the point when he threw his cake away and walked into the surprise party. A waste of a good cake. :) Perhaps, if I find my self in a dry spell, I'll return to the desert馃挜 and see what he's up to.

The finale seemed to be more like a mid-season episode. I'm not sure if Covid halted production or it was always intended to lead into S2, but this show will have been completely pointless unless there is at least one more season.

Anyone else finish this season and can comment on if it gets better after episode one? Wife keeps asking me if we are going to watch more and I was so disappointed in episode one I don't want to. Looking to see if you guys think these 6 episodes are worth the ride.

It wasn't the best show of the year or anything but better than a lot of the mediocre stuff being put out there. To its credit, it didn't take 10 or more episodes to tell that story. 6 felt about right.

Sigh, my wife is probably going to win this one.

Wait...why do you have to watch it together? My wife & I have tons of shows we watch separately.

We prefer it, we discuss shows while we watch, etc. We typically love the exact same stuff, we rarely think opposite. I think this one grabbed her because of the girl's predicament/escape. While I don't have to watch the same thing, we rarely do not watch the same show together. Worst case if it is something she loves (e.g. some of her HGTV shows), I will play a video game, or surf the net, or read work e-mails, or read one of my novels (usually my go to), etc.

Would agree with that. It had a couple of good moments and didn't really drag, which automatically makes it better than 50% of shows out there. Far from essential viewing but I enjoyed it.

They build on the girl's backstory a bit so she may continue to like that aspect.

Is this more white people and poor immigrant porn? Does it actually have anything interesting to say about the issue or its Hollywood capitalizing on a hot topic? Didn't we see enough of this in Sicario, The Bridge US etc? Does it end up glorifying US border patrol/ICE etc like most shows?

No, quite the opposite in some ways.

Does it actually have anything interesting to say about the issue or its Hollywood capitalizing on a hot topic?
Vaguely, and no.

Didn't we see enough of this in Sicario, The Bridge US etc?
It's not overly similar to either of them.

Does it end up glorifying US border patrol/ICE etc like most shows?
No.
