Hi.

My HTPC has 800mhz, and use a Radeon 7500 with HW acceleration.

My question is: if I use a 2ghz processor instead, will there be any

upgrade in quality? This is for DVD use.

Another question is: will Dscaler(for LaserDisc) be better at 2ghz than

800mhz?

Thanks for your time,

Nicholas

Dscalers more advanced stuff needs more than a 800mhz PC so that will/can improve. With DVD playback the extra power won't really help.

Dscaler is very CPU intensive, especially when you start turning on various filters and features. I feel a 2GHz processor is probably necessary to get the most from Dscaler... (ie. no dropping frames or having to disable things or reduce quality such as decreasing pixel width). As for DVD viewing, your current (800MHz) processor is way more than adequate (even with H/W acceleration off)... that is... unless you add ffdshow to the line up! If that's the case, you're back to needing all the CPU "horsepower" you can afford. Again, I would suggest that 2 GHz would allow you to get ~2 filters going before 'running outta gas' (most people only use either a 'sharpening filter' and/or the 'blur and noise' filter).

...anyway that's just my opinion.
