I have just bought a pair of Tannoy Mercury V1. I want to try to modify the filter by replacing the components with better ones. The crossover is a 4th order Linkwitz Riley and the crossover frequency is 3,2Khz. I have bought all my parts for reconstructing the filter. What I need help for is to draw up a "wiring diagram" so that I can sold the filter together. When I look at the actual filter, it is nothing there I understand or can reconstruct. Can somebody help me? I can specify the values that I have gathered so that someone maybe can draw the diagram?

Why do you need somone to draw up a schematic? If you already have the crossover and simply intend to rebuild with better parts that isn't needed. If you aren't able to draw one, because you don't understand them, then you also don't know how to use one. Am I missing something?

I know how to read the schematics. But there isnt enough space on the original crossover to just sold it where it was. I know that the components in these speakers are already good. Believe me when I say that the ones I have bought are better! I have been talking to several electricians and even they tell me they cant draw up the schematics. This is truly complicated stuff! I also have tried to draw up a theoretical 4th order filter with a PC program, but the values doesnt match with the actual filter. Since you are such a smart dude maybe I just can send you some pictures of the actual crossover and return a wiring diagram to me?

In that case, all you have to do is make your own sketch of components and connections - not a schematic. There is no good reason you can't do that yourself.

Certainly not anything close to a standard schematic. I'm about to finish my 4th semester as an electrical engineer, so I am certainly no expert, but I can't make sense of that thing. What are all those extra lines in there? You don't have any components connected to one another, so maybe show how they're connected and what's connected to what?

Looks like you have partially sketched the back of the PCB. What you need to do is sketch out the components and work out where each connection goes.


Normally one starts with a schematic and then converts it into a layout. You have a layout - there is no need to convert that into a schematic, because it is the layout that you need to build!

Here is an updated version of the crossover schematics. I need to have one because Im going to build the filter from scratch, so it is much easier for me to figure out what goes where!

That cannot be correct at all.


For a couple of reasons-you have a 0.22 ohm resistor in parallel with the input and a choke in parallel with the input. Those would easily shut down most amps-if not blow them up.
