I had a Philips 55" 4x3 HDTV that had a great picture and worked wonderfully but the allure of a LCD HDTV got to me and it's ease of use for my HTPC really helped. So I sold off my RPTV to someone who came and picked it up yesterday.

Well after they got it home and set it up it worked fine for a little while then (without me knowing what happened) the convergence went waaay off and the green is the worst of the three.

When looking at the grid the green is fine from left to right, but from the top it is bowed downward, and form the bottom it is bowed upward. I came over today to take a look and really coudl not beleive how horrible it looked. I tried to do the service mode adjustment to it but it would not let me adjust the green up and down, only side to side.

I played around for a while and eventually tried swapping the blue and the green on the digital convergence board and when I did this the bowing on the green was gone but the blue was now bowed. That leads me to believe it is indeed in the convergence board.... of course I am not a technician, just technically inclined

The TV from what I remember is actually a rebadged hitatchi. The convergence procedure is a painful one. Here is a page that lists the info:

http://www.freelists.org/post/techas...nce-troubles,1

now the Convergence board I am speaking of has the follwoing on it:

DP1X Convergence PCB

jk07132a

Pp15/16

There are two ICs on this board that supposedly do tend to need to be replaced after time and maybe this is just a coincidence that the traveling was all it took to finally kill them. I'll have to get those IC numbers and post them here later.

Anyway, is there anyone that has experience with this model TV or similar problem that happened to them in the past? Any help would greatly be appreciated (from both the seller and the buyer lmao) as this set really still did look excellent!

Funny I was just gtetting ready to post back on here
I brought the convergence board in to work today so I could post the IC #s here and one of the engineers here said whats the convergence board from? lol without even really looking at it he already knew what it was (he used to be in TV repair). SO I explained the problem and he agreed with what I read around the net about replacing the two ICs and possibly some resistors (one shows bad), or at least try that first.

the two ICs are stk392-110

I've got a friend who has this tv and is having the same issue. The big problem he's having is he doesn't have the remote. It has the "Intellisense" convergence and the remote is the only way to access convergence. Don't know what to tell him to do with it. Also it's having the same bowing issue at the top of the screen. Is this something he's just going to have to have someone fix? I know nothing about this stuff and I have a CRT RPTV myself. Maybe I should start learning.

And where can he get a remote for it? Looked everywhere and NO ONE has the original remote.

bumping this up in case it is possibly something other than the convergence ICs. Parts should be here by friday.

May well be the convergence ICs, but noticed while working on my Philips 64PH9905 an adjustment for top/bottom image bowing here , under Convergence and Geometry at the end of the writeup. Looks fairly advanced, though, since it calls for putting a clip wire on while adjusting. But a similar adjustment might exist for the OP model. -- John
