Almost every reviewer on the planet fell over him/her self to praise Far Cry. Having played the game, I was really frustrated and disappointed with the final product. I hated the lack of quicksave. I hated the checkpoint system with a flaming passion. I hated the one-hit, one-kill mutant creatures. I hated the indoor environments, which looked mostly like dog doo. I hated the bad guys who could spot you from a distance of over a half mile while you were sniping them from heavy foliage. I hated the broken stealth that made it nigh impossible to sneak up on an enemy.


I loved the gorgeous outdoor environments and the awesome vehicles, but I really didn't like Far Cry, and I don't expect Crysis to be much better. To add injury to insult, EA is the publisher, and I'm still too sore about the NFL/Madden exclusivity deal to buy anything under the EA mantle.

. Actually I am building a new PC for Vista and waiting on all of the Direct 10 compatibility and I got to see how Crysis plays and if they can bring new gameplay along with the new graphics. Don't worry you can come over and check the game out without spending the money I will bite the bullet on that one

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm also ready to take the plunge and sink some $$$ into a DX10/Vista machine, partly for work and partly for play. I look forward to seeing what Crysis does on your screamin' new rig.

My father is excited also because I am building him a new machine. He is a huge Flight Simulator nut and I have X already. Wierd how I have to bargain for my 60" XBR1 from him and I am giving him parts from what I already have

. Its all good though my parents have been watching my son and daughter while I have been here.

This is bittersweet if true. One the one hand, it means that I will have to invest in some expensive new PC hardware if I want to play unadulterated Crysis. On the other hand, if it looks good enough, perhaps I won't have to because the 360 is capable of some great graphics.


I will await some official announcement before I make up my mind about this.

While I couldn't agree more, most people played the game in standard def which at the time, the game probably looked like a masterpiece


now it's a master peice of mung

you probably wont need vista


supposedly ms is working on a version for xp, and if not there are others out there who are getting dx10 up and running on xp with the dx sdk, and actually running dx10 "demos" on xp machines already.

it seems all those who jumped on dx10 cards now have to buy new cards in january if they want dx10.1 effects.... which is exactly why i chose the best dx9 card, which was cheaper than a crappy dx10 card

Have any of you guys actually played Crysis? It's pretty good and you don't need some ridiculously expensive system to play it. The 8800 GT is only $250-$300 and can play it on the high setting (which looks fantastic).

You guys might want to wait on the building of your systems, or at least pick up an Intel P35 or X38 chipset MoBo so that you can future-proof a bit and open up the possibility of upgrading later to the 45nm Intel chips that are starting to be released on the high end. It requires lower wattage, and has potentially higher clock speeds, so its worth investing in the newer chipsets and the P35s are a mid-range price now anyway.
