Crystal Ball Needed - $2500 and one or two months?

With $2500 as my budget, will my selection of plasmas increase greatly?

I'd really like to get a HD set, but right now I'd have to stretch to get even a lower level set (JVC x84) near my budget.

For that change of ching, go to costco's and get a panasonic 42" edtv
In 1-2 months not much will change from here.
Go to one of the forum sponsors and get a commercial Panny EDTV, and have hundreds of $$ left over.
There is an HD Pioneer at Costco for a few hundred more then your budget.

Go for that one...or as others have said, just pick up a Panny 7UY.
Maybe if you wait awhie you could get one of the LG Plasmas that are new models, 1024 X 768 5000:1 Contrast ratio and maybe just maybe better quality than the HD Pioneer at Costco for a hair less than $2500? Does anyone know how much they will cost?
Why would that LG be better then the Pioneer?

It is using LG internals. Pioneer Internal Processor is one of the best around.

Don't say because the LG has 5000:1 contrast ratio. That is not a "real world" contrast ratio #.

The highly liked Panny is really about 600:1 or at most 700:1 contrast ratio even though it's listed as 3000:1 (HD) 4000:1 (ED).

But hey...maybe the LG would be better. Who knows until it is released.

Just in case the LG you're referring to is the 42PX12, do yourself a favor and steer clear! You can read our review and other opinions elsewhere, but let's just say we're a whole lot happier after returning it and getting the Panny EDTV!

What is your viewing distance? If 10ft go for ED. If 7ft go HD.

For that budget a new model panny ed should be out this month (TH-42PD50U). The few HD models in that price range just don't compare to the current panny. If you have to have HD, the wait will be more in the September range and a panny HD commercial may be closer to that price.
