When can we order a reciever or pre/pro to our own specs? Like ordering a pc.

For example:

I just want 2 in and 1 out hdmi

No xlr balance connectors

No rca type video in/out

No "s" video in/out

Etc, etc, etc,


This way I can make the back panel less clutter. Also, I can save some cash.


Any suggestion?

Maybe a guy working in his basement could cobble something together for you. I am sure someone does it out there, don't even know where to look.

Probably never. I'm sure it wouldn't save you any cash either, custom assembled units would cost a lot more.

It's sort of out there already in the guise of a HTPC. You can custom order exactly what you want and have it built and just use that as a pre/pro. With solid state drives and more options for HDMI inputs and outputs in pc's, I think we will start to see blended products at some point that look more like audio equipment but are really pc's on the inside.
