Alright, I'm a bit confused and could use some help. I've read all the various FAQ's I could find but still not quite sure about something.

I currently have a SD D*Tivo and another D* STB box in a different room. So three total connections. I have an Oval Phase 3 dish, but only two wires coming from it into the house and then into a multi-switch.

So my question is, if I get a D* HDTV STB, not a HDTivo just a regular HD STB, will I be able to receive all the Satellite HD channels that are offered? If not, do I have to get 1 or 2 more of the wires from the dish into the house (not very easy with current setup but possibly can be done).

Thanks guys, I look forward to any help you can give.

No.

Yes. Remove your current switch and wire everything directly to the dish. This is assuming you have a dish with a switch built into it.

Robert, I am confused by your 'No' response to Jeff's first question. Why wouldn't he be able to get all of the D* offered HD channels using an HD-STB as opposed to an HD-TiVo? The only differences between the two are dual sets of DBS+OTA tuners and record-feature.

I was answering the question based on his original configuration. Two wires from the multi-sat dish into ANY multi-switch will only give you the 101 satellite. To get all three satellites you must either connect directly to the dish (my suggestion) or run all four cables to a cascadable switch.

Thanks guys, this helps out. Was kinda confused with everything but I think this helps to clear it up.

One last question. If I did go with a cascadable switch, I would still have to get the rest of the wires into the house, correct? The advantage of the casadable switch is I can send the signal from the other sats to multiple rooms (i.e. more than 4)......at least thats the way I understand it. Just trying to avoid, whats looking like, the unavoidable, trying to find a way to get those other wires in. : )

There is another option and you will only need 2 wires from the dish. If you are willing to spend the $600 for the extra equipment, I'll explain it in more detail.

Correct. As you have it now, you can use two tuners. Run two more wires from the dish and you can use 4 or more tuners. The "or more" part requires the cascadable switch.

Robert,

Thank you very much for your help with this. I think I figured out a way to quite easily get the other two wires in and be one step closer to HDTV. Thanks again for answering all the questions, definetly cleared things up for me.
