Hello,

I will be switching from DSL to cable internet tomorrow. As a result my Zoom 5590 X6 combo modem/router will become useless. The cable company will be providing a modem. However I will need to buy a new router on my own. I currently run my PS3 wired, but the kids will be getting their own PS3 which will be in the front room of the house.

I would like to run their PS3 wirelessly. The router I am looking at is this one: D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router. Does anyone have any experience with this router in general and in specific for wireless and wired use with the PS3? In addition, how is the wireless range on this router? Any additional comments on ease of setup, reliability, etc are more than welcome as well.

I plan on posting this in the PS3 section as well. I'm not sure where the better spot for it would be to catch a bit more visibility. I hope that's not in violation of good forum etiquette.

Thanks in advance.

I have this router and got it from Costco. It has worked pretty well. For video streaming wired is still the best way. If you run the microwave in the kitchen, my audio streaming just stops. I have used both AppleTV and Squeezebox for wireless streaming and both seem to be affected by the microwave.

I've had this one for almost a year - it replaced a nutty Netgear that I vowed never to buy again. In summary, here are my experiences:

- running with WEP or WPA, it gets flaky losing/reconnecting - firmware may have addressed this, but you MUST be cautious in upgrading firmwares as they have stability issues (you'll see my note below on this)

- so, I do not run any security, but instead use NIC filtering on so that only my devices can connect to it

- besides the flakiness of the wireless with security on, i have to say this is a seriously good unit - reviews are solid on it

- lots of flexibility in configuration, features, etc. I like it because it supports DynDNS for my own domain for my networked server.

Spend more time researching/reading on DSL Reports - I think they have the best experts on networking: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dlink

I'm partial to Linksys - their auto configurator software, called LELA, has treated me very well. A 3 year old could set up or expand a network with this program.

I used it to add my ethernet-ready receiver to my network last week - took less than a minute.
