I realize the solicitors for D*, just like most other companies, probably don't actually work for D* and are just reading from a script. Unfortunately, many people probably believe what they hear from these people. Here is the conversation from a telephone call I received last night:



D* Rep: Sir, as a former DirecTV customer, we have a special offer for you...


Me: Let me interrupt you for a minute. I will consider returning to DirecTV when they increase the number of High Definition channels equal to what I'm already receiving.


D* Rep: Well, Sir, DirecTV has a great lineup of High Definition channels...


Me: Let me interrupt you again. I currently have 13 High Definition channels including my locals. Again, once DirecTV can match that, I'll consider returning to DirecTV.


D* Rep: DirecTV does have the local channels in your area.


Me: But not in High Definition.


D* Rep: Yes Sir, the local channels are in High Definition.


Me: No, Ma'am, they are not.


D* Rep: DirecTV offers ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in your area in High Definition.


Me: I would need an antenna to receive those channels over the air.


D* Rep: No, you won't need a separate antenna. D* offers these channels in your area.


Me: Listen, I know what I'm talking about. D* does not offer local channels in High Definition in my area.


D* Rep: [Long Pause] Thank you, Sir.


Me: [LMOA]

What's really sad is the CSR's employed by D* often know about as much about HD as that telemarketer.

Ive had similar conversations. But I add that they need to add HD channels that I can qualify to get. They seem to think that everyone can get the distant network feeds or dont really understand what they are.

To be fair, can we reasonably expect telemarketers to know about all the O&O crap? Heck, most newbies here are confused about that stuff.

I actually don't think it was confusion about O&O as much as it was confusion about the difference between digital and HD. However, I wasn't going to waste any more of my time probing her knowledge since I already knew she was clueless.
