Nope Ken, there was a thread about this a while back; personally, it takes me ages to want to see the same movie again, particularly if it's not an especial favorite of mine, and for that reason I'm loathed to buy them, and would like to have the option to rent. Perhaps a few emails to Blockbusters or Hollywood videos will do the trick, but presumably the studios would need to OK HD video rentals which they may not.

I asked a manager at my local HV if they'll be renting them out. He didn't even know HD was possible on tape. I guess I expect too much.

Facets Multimedia in Chicago has the largest VHS rental by mail business in the U.S. They will be a good source. Round trip rental cost (UPS both ways) is $10 a tape the last time I checked.

The VHS rental companies cater to the joesixpacks. They don't know anything about HD and don't want to know.

Forget rental. It would be easier to just buy the movie and then sell it on ebay ifyou don't want to keep it.

Perhaps we (or AVS) could establish a DVHS trade program on this cite. Each of us could buy 2 or 3 movies and then trade (either temporarily or permanently) with someone else on this forum via posts on the forum.

The market for dvhs pre-recorded material is already way too small, why do we want to save a few bucks on first few releases and risk losing future releases as studios percieve the market to be too small a niche? What incentive do you think the studios have? public service? Sorry for sounding a little harsh and I aint in bed with studios either, but man I want my high-def real bad.

It is possible that Widescreen Review might work out some sort of D-VHS rental at some point. They already said they'll be selling D-VHS tapes.

Good point.
