D-VHS Questions???

393 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Abq-Pete
Over at the AVS Special Guests forum, a member from Europe has a D-VHS deck and has played a HD recording of the HBO HD movie "Vertical Limit".

Questions: Can your record presently an HBO HD movie with the D-VHS deck??? I thought that such movies are copy protected and can't be copies by the D-VHS deck, but that you could use it to record stuff from digital OTA, as well as analog OTA, or other non copy protected DirecTV channels.

Please educate me. Thanks.

Steve,

The recording part is not so difficult with old Panasonic gear, Hipix, the 169time gear, etc. The trick is getting the signal. The only way to do it today is via a DISH 5000 with the HDTV modulator. This takes DISH's HD broadcasts and sends them out via 8vsb which is easily recordable via the methods mentioned above.

At this time, there is no CP in the datastream.

The 169time mod is nearing completion so users will be able to record DirecTV soon.
