Stupid question here, but when making a HD recording, how much quality do you lose? I know on analog stuff, regular VCRs add some noise...

Thanks,

Chris

You might introduce an occasional "dropout" or "glitch" by recording to tape, then playing back. Sometimes it can be perfect though.

So it's like OTA reception basically... you either get everything or nothing (minus some pixelations). I'm just getting ready for the Comcast firewire update and since there aren't any good XP tools yet, this looks like the way to go.

Thanks,

Chris

I've got the JVC 30K and love it. I use it with a Samsung SIR-T165 and it works great. I get a perfect picture on play back. It's really cool to be able to record in HD. There is the occasional drop out when the tape has a crease or bad spot, but they are rare and don't bother me. After having Tivo for 2 years and time shifting with tape before that, I can't stand having to watch shows when they are on and also not be able to skip commercials. With the JVC D-VHS, I can do both.
