In the Panasonic manual for the HD-1000, there are two D-VHS tapes shown, the DF-300 and the DF-420. I have never seen the obviously longer DF-420 tapes and wonder if in fact they exist. If so, does anyone know where they can be purchase?
There ARE DF480 DVHS tapes but I have not seen any US retailers that carry them possibly because, over here, they are quite expensive per hour of tape compared to the DF240s, DF300s and DF360s. Also the Japanese Post Office charges about $5.50 per tape to Express Mail Service them to the US.
I do not recall seeing DF360s available in the US but I was not looking very hard esp. since one of the other forum members reported great results with a professional grade SVHS tape that is 182 minutes in length, the Maxell ST-182BQ (BQ stands for broadcast quality). The only problem with using SVHS tapes might be with recording on a demo PV-HD1000; the recorder I left in the US seemed to make perfect recordings only with the DVHS blank tapes.
