First, my apologies for the fact that you did not receive a response. I do not know what happened but I never received your message.


Can you tell me a little more about the situation with your screen? Was it in storage for some time while you were waiting to install it? Was that storage area temperature controlled? I need to know a little more about your situation and determine exactly what happened before we can make a suggestion.

About a year and a half ago, I purchased a Da-Lite 60" x 80" Cosmopolitan Tensioned Electrol, from Tom Young at Cinemasource. It was to be installed in my new home which was under construction. About a year ago, we moved in and I installed the screen. After awhile I got to thinking that something was not quite right about it. I finally gets off my butt and gets out the tape measure. The screen measured 80" across the top and bottom, but only 78 1/2" across the middle. I sent a letter to Da-Lite customer service. I mentioned it to Tom when making another purchase. He said this was bad and he would see about getting me another screen. Later, I saw a thread on this forum that had an e-mail address for a Mr. Brubaker at Da-Lite. I sent him an e-mail about the problem. To this day I have not had a response from anybody!

This is the third time I have tried to reply. The replys haven't registered. The screen was shipped via Roadway. It took about a month to get here. From the tracking number, it appears that the screen was in Arizona for about three weeks before it was delivered. One day they showed up to deliver it, the driver had the paper work, but the screen wasn't on the truck. When it finally got here it looked like it had been through the war. I checked it over and it appeared to be undamaged. Da-Lite sure knows how to pack stuff. The screen was stored in a spare bedroom in our rental unit while our house was being built. The unit was air conditioned at about 78 degrees.

Well, my replacement screen arrived yesterday. This one has only 1/2" error. I am very pleased. Thank you Blake Brubaker and thank you Tom Young.

This is not an uncommon problem. Different materials will age differently. It seems that heat is giving this particular material the fits. The srinkage is small,and is probably easily removable, it would jsut reqire tension along the two outside edges. It is tenssioned at the top and bottom, so thus, the pulling in at the middle. Not unusual, with most materials out there. So, I would not specifically point out this situation.


The Arizona heat probably played a BIG part in the problem encountered in the first screen mentioned. Heat and excessively low humidity. Heck, your projector would deform under the same conditions. I'll be lucky if anything I produce behaves as well under such adverse conditions. The da-lite screen in question should have recieved hazard pay for that job.
