DAC for Use Between Phone and Receiver?

Hello all, first post here on AVS

I am new to the audiophile community, so I apologize in advance for exceedingly noob questions, but I'm loving the opportunity to squeeze as much quality out of my music wherever I can (thats the name of the game huh?)

Currently I run a yamaha rx459 for music listening and home theater, lack of configuration options due to a broken IR receiver on the unit for the remote has lead me to planning on upgrading to a Marantz Sr6013 now that they're almost half their original price.

For music, I listen to my turntable as well as off my phone. I have an outboard phono preamp for the TT, but for external digital players I've been reading up on DACs lately, and was considering a cambridge dacmagic plus, which leads me to my questions.

Is it true that an outboard DAC between an external player (my phone) and the receiver is better for sound quality than just a phone>receiver setup?

Also, while I prefer wired for sound quality, I often use bluetooth to stream from my phone just for the convenience, seeing as the marantz has integrated bluetooth streaming, would bluetooth>DAC>Receiver be beneficial or does it even matter at that point?

Thanks!

Wired is typically always better/recommended. BT is convenient, but not optimal... no matter the DAC.

IMO, try the phone to the receiver. If it sounds good. Enjoy. If not... try an external DAC.
As to the audible benefit(s) by adding an external DAC?
Some say it's worth it.
Some say it's a wasted expenditure.

Only you can determine what sounds best to you. Don't get hung up on internet discussions.
If you get a receiver with built-in Chromecast (or Airplay if you're an iPhone person) functionality you should be able to stream from your phone at full quality.
