I am almost ready to purchase a screen for my 4805, and Jason from avs is helping me out. He originally recommended the Perm-Wall screen, but I thought the Cinema Contour looks much nicer. Unfortunately, it comes at quite a steeper price (almost double, for a 106" screen, same HCCV material).

So, before I pull the trigger, I thought I would seek out some final opinions and thoughts. As with everything, I'm a compulsive over-analyzer ;)

1) Is the Cinema Contour frame worth nearly twice as much as the Perm-Wall frame? Does anyone have close-up pics of the corners of each? It's hard to get a good idea of what the real difference in look is. If the snaps show clearly on the Perm-Wall screen, that won't look good, IMO.

2) Is the ProTrim worth the extra cash? It's just a coating, right? Does it really make much of a difference? Again, any pics comparing with and without?

3) Assuming I upgrade to a better projector in 2 years, will this screen still meet my needs? Or would the HCCV material not work well for some other projectors?

4) For those of you who have purchased screens, is it worth the money to invest in a good/decent screen? Or do you later think "yeah, it's good, but I would have been happier with a cheaper screen and 30 more DVDs in my collection"?

Thanks for any thoughts or opinions. I'm discussing the pricing with my wife. The Cinema Contour is a tough sell to her for the extra cash, so if there are any convincing arguments to go with it over the Perm-Wall, I'd like to hear them!

Have you compared with the Criterion screen from Carada? It has the wider frame and contoured, beveled edges of the Cinema Contour product and the price includes the black velvet material covering the frame. The cost is significantly lower and reviews on AVS and other sites have been enthusiastic.

I just received my 106" Carada Criterion with Classic Cinema White screen material for use with a Panasonic PT-L300U. It won't go up on the wall for a few more weeks until drywalling and painting are finished.

Perm-Wall corner. The snaps are visible up close but not while viewing movies, etc. I weighed the same choices and couldn't justify the extra expense of the Contour. My ultimate goal is creating a masking system and hiding the button snaps.

The only bad thing you can say about the permwall is that the snaps are visible. Although they are black, they are metal. Aside from that the screen is very good. Whats good about the Cinema Contour.? Its a beautiful frame that will make your HT look very nice. The bevel will help prevent an shadowing from a standard frame (which the Permwall doenst have). The Cinema Contour can come with the velvet trim which helps absorb any lightspill. Since the Permwall has no visible frame, you dont have the velvet trim option. The visible screen is surrounded by a black trim like you would see in a an electric or pulldown screen
