Damn, I coulda saved $200 if I bought a used PS3 now, instead of brand new at launch

Brand new PS3 = roughly $647 (with tax)

Used 60 gig PS3's are routinely going in the low $400's, plus many of these have extra games or controllers thrown in. I would have never imagined that just 6 months after launch you would be able to save around 32 percent off the normal retail price by buying used. Had I known this, I might have actually waited till now and just bought used. The only thing I would have really missed out on was Blu Ray movie watching. Yeah, I would have missed a few extra months with Motorstorm and 6 extra months with Resistance, but I think I might have been able to sacrifice all that for a 32 percent savings.

Oh well, no use in crying over spilled milk.

Blu Ray.... HELLO?

Seriously though, I'm seeing some auctions on Ebay go as low as $400, and include an extra controller and a game as well. To me that is a steal. The Blu Ray player in the PS3 is top notch, and to get all of that for $400 is an awesome deal. I kinda feel like an ass for paying $647 back in November, but such is the life of an early adopter I guess.
nearly every used product is going to be (much) cheaper than new. I just did a quick check of the completed listings and found about 3 out of the first 50 or so sold PS3 listed (YMMV if you check later) were actually used 60GB models selling for under $500 delivered, those were 1 buy it now at $450+20 one best offer for 450+30 and a poorly labeled one for 495 shipped. Average I'd say is about 550 shipped and a game or 2. Is it a good deal yeah, but it's used electronics on ebay your gonna get any used electronics much cheaper on ebay.
Edit...I probably came off too harsh =/
yea i figured this might happen so i waited. bought one ont the bay for $550 delivered with the departed blu-ray, the sony bluetooth remote, a 6 ft. hdmi cable, a 1 year gamestop warranty and MK2, GTHD, tekken:dark resurection, flow and some demos already saved on the harddrive. not a bad deal if you ask me. my wife had just suprised me with a new one from BB and she paid the extra $100 for the replacement plan. i think the total was like $750 after tax so i saved $200 and got a bunch of stuff extra. if you don't have a ps3 yet and are thinking of getting one, i'd definitely check out ebay.
The PS3 is becoming quite the bargain, especially looking at it as a Blu-ray player that happens to play games also. I got mine at the end of January for a little over $300 at Gamestop thanks to a lot of unused trade-in credit.

If you wait a while and don't buy something retail you can save money. This is news?

Something that expensive. I wouldnt want 2nd hand crap like that. You dont know how its been used and if it was taken care of properly. You done good by not being cheap and getting a new one at the time.
Like the other posters above:

OF COURSE you will pay more on release day/new than something used. I'm really not seeing the point of this thread.
I wanted it.....i bought it.

I wanted it again.....i bought another.

There is no way in hell I could or would wait for a deal. Take the number of hours used divided by what you paid.....its a better value than most junk we all buy.

or you just buy a used one with a warranty. take it back to whatever store the warranty is held at and get a new one.

Well, the Xbox 360 also launched in November of the previous year, and I can tell you that in May 2006, you weren't saving much of anything off the retail price, and in some cases were actually paying a slight premium, lol. Of course all electronic devices are cheaper used, but a 32 percent drop is a pretty huge drop. Normally, you would think maybe you would save about 15 to 20 percent. I've seen alot of really good deals on Craigslist too. Actually much better deals than Ebay. I've seen a number of them with extra controllers and extra games and Blu Ray movies, etc, etc, for a very good price. I've almost been tempted to try to buy a second one, lol.
At least you didn't buy it for $1100 off Ebay just after release, like someone I know who did.

I wouldn't give up the last 6 months of glorious bonding with my PS3 for $200. I've been there from the beginning and I've seen every update, PS store item, and new game added and wouldn't have missed it for anything. Just my 2 cents.
Turned on this Foreman Grill look-a-like for the first time today and the only reason I did was b/c I was playing my 360 and happened to notice it ... I turned it off 5 minutes later. I was attacking people who said PS3 was a PoS or whatever, but now I recommend to anyone without a PS3 to not pick up a PS3 anytime soon ... not even for Blu-Ray. I'm sure in the coming years Blu-Ray movies (if and when they win the format war) that are out now will be revised and look even better than how they look now. I mean how many DVD versions of Terminator 2 and Gone in 60 Seconds, etc. are there? Same thing goes for Blu-Ray. This black PoS is a big disappointment until I play games worth playing.
