First class acting performance by Javier Bardem. World Class, in fact. The dancer upstairs, downstairs, or wherever, was easy on the eyes, and has a brief nude scene in the shower. Her name is Laura Morante, and she's been in nearly four dozen movies. Amazing, simply amazing.
Malkovich, the director, has many interesting things to say in the extras. As life imitates art (see Beyond the Clouds), this is a masterfully constructed picture for a first-timer. Let's say it's intellectual without being intellectual. It has a message without preaching. The theme is timeless (as far as the last century and this are concerned). Destruction always has two sides, at least. How you view it depends on which side you're on. It's the T word, alright, but not T-rex.
