Dario Argento's Mother of Tears

Argento's latest is opening tomorrow in the twin cities. For those not in the know, MOT is the final film in the trilogy which includes Suspiria and Inferno. Are there any Argento fans out there who have seen this yet?

I have the Region 2 DVD and it's been in my "To Watch" pile for over a month. I'll watch it tomorrow or this weekend and let you know what I think.
Just finished " Terza madre, La " (Mother of Tears - USA Title) and while not outstanding it was still very good. Highly recommended if you are a fan of director/writer Dario Argento's style.

"Terza madre, La is a good finish to the "Three Mothers" trilogy. It incorporates Argento's bloodletting in many various and unique forms, none of which will disappoint you.

If you're a fan of Argento's, buy the DVD or check it out in the theater; if not it's certainly worth a rent. Who knows, after watching it you may become a fan.

English language soundtrack (not dubbed), no subs necessary.
I've hated everything he's done since Opera. His films have just grown worse and worse, so I haver serious doubts about this. If it plays here in NYC I may may might go to it. It's hard to say yes to this guy after 2+ decades of ****.

As I stated, if you're a fan of Argento's you will want to see "Terza madre, La". I take it from your post you are not a fan so I would advise you to avoid this **** and save your money.

But to those that are fans it is not ****, go see it.

No, I was a fan. I was a huge fan. His early work is remarkable. Repeat viewing on all of them. The first film I saw of his was SUSPIRIA, then DEEP RED and then all of his pre-OPERA films. All of them are in my DVD collection (some of which need some TLC, like TENEBRAE). OPERA is a mess, but it has some amazing sequences. Then the films started to fall apart. One by one I watched his later films and with each one it was as if his skills were becoming victims of the ravages of time.

When he and Daria split up something snapped inside of him and he just fell into a rut and has made one laughably bad movie after another. STENDHAL SYNDROME is painful to watch. PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has a wonderful music score and that is it. Everything else about it is embarrassing. SLEEPERS had potential but bad acting and laughable dubbing ruined it. My ex and I were depressed after watching that one. It was so disappointing after reading the absurd claims that Argento had returned to form.

As to the tears trilogy... SUSPIRIA and INFERNO are great horror films. The former is a masterpiece of style. If this third part of the trilogy is as good as INFERNO, then I'd be happy. But after one terrible film after another for decades it is hard to imagine the guy has suddenly turned back the clock.

Well it definitely isn't a GREAT movie, that is why I suggested that perhaps you should wait to see it on DVD; if you are interested at all. Hard core Argento fans will more than likely love it.

If you notice, I said it is a 'good' finish to the "Three Mothers" trilogy, not a 'great' finish.
Good is better than bad.

There was a definite jump in quality in his films after he and Daria got together, and a definite decline after they broke up-I've always wondered just how much influence she had on his films. I'm not as harsh on his later stuff as Matt is, but I see his point. A lot of the post Opera stuff does seem like uninspired ripoffs of his own earlier work, but there are moments in nearly all his films that made them worth seeing, at least for me. He has veered dangerously close to self parody though.
