Hi,

I've written a small utility which uses the RS232 remote controlling capabilities of Davis projectors to automate the synchronisation process (including providing a patterned test screen) and activate/deactivate standby mode.

It differs from other solutions, like DPController, that it focuses solely on those two operations.

Please see the documentation file:

http://www.hometheatersoftware.com/s.../DaviSync.html

and the installation archive:

http://www.hometheatersoftware.com/stuff/DaviSync/

I'll appreciate any feedback. I've written the tool for my personal use and are releasing it in case it might be of use to other people. The software is free.

@Phat Phreddy

Thanks for pointing out how obsolete my PJ is ;) (btw, the current version

of DPController appears to have a "Standby" button)

To illustrate DaviSync a bit, here is a screenshot of the tray popup menu:

and here a shot of the manual adjustment screen (snapshotted at 800x600 for this post, but it will scale up to whatever the screen resolution is, so XGA works fine, too):

I've just uploaded Version 1.0 to

http://www.hometheatersoftware.com/stuff/DaviSync/

with the following changes:

Quote:
Added a "Toggle" entry for standby mode. Popup menu layout has been changed so that the standby group is a submenu, but "Toggle" is a default and thus can be activated with a double click

Added toggle command to Girder group

Added displaying of refresh rate to calibration screens

Calibration screen window is now forced on top of all windows

Calibration screen window is now forced on active monitor, even if the monitor configuration changed since DaviSync was started

Auto setup now does a small delay before sending the sync command to the projector, to give the calibration pattern time to actually arrive at the projector

Auto setup calibration screen no longer shows the color bars

Fixed setup info screen projector version display

Reduced application file size and runtime memory footprint by about 25%
I'd still appreciate any feedback :)

It's pretty funny to see a mention of the Davis Projector Controller. I wrote that program so long ago and didn't even know that Homestead still had the site up (they said they were going to take it down unless I paid).

Anyway, I'm glad to see people still adding functionality/usabilty to the Davis line. I converted to CRT, but still have my Davis. Maybe I'll have to dust it off and take a look at it again.

I've just uploaded Version 1.1 to

http://www.hometheatersoftware.com/stuff/DaviSync/

Quote:
added new option "Set Projector to standby on system shutdown", which does exactly this and delays the windows shutdown procedure by 30s to give the projector time to cool down a bit (in case it's power is switched from the PC by means of some master-slave thing)

fixed screen vertical frequency display

now reads screen vertical frequency from PowerStrip, if it's running

removed leftover debug messagebox during autosetup

PS, @Tim: I brought the C10 back to live in our bed room as a TV replacement :)

I've just uploaded Version 2.0 of DaviSync to

http://www.hometheatersoftware.com/

Courtesy of Mike Flaster, the new version has some very basic support to modify color/gamma using the serial upload protocol. I've kind-of modelled the Gamma/Gain/Bias controls after the ones found in the Sharp XV-10000's setup menu.

Sounds good!

Just keep in mind that when you flash the gamma, it only lasts while the projector is on.
