I asked about a good sub for music in another thread and someone mentioned the Dayton HF 12" as a good sub at a very good price so I went ahead and modeled it. The box is 14x15x15 and the modeled f3 was ~40Hz.

Now this is where I am confused. I was messing around with EQ on the model and instead of doing a 6db boost at 30Hz I went and put a 12db shelf @50Hz instead. Now after doing that the FR straightened out and all of a sudden I got a new F3 of 22Hz without hitting xmax. Should this be right? It still says the sub will give over 100db output at the F3 point with a 240w plate amp which PE is selling right now for $109. Anyway needless to say I have both sitting in the shopping cart waiting to hit buy but I wanted to straighten this out before I pulled the trigger. Anyway here are the two different graphs with and without the shelf.

Red is with the 12db shelf at 50Hz and pink is with no EQ.

Can someone explain to me what I did wrong?

for each 3db, you need 2x voltage. depending on the impedence locus of the driver, you may or may not be current limited. in any case, you can't just plop down a filter and expect your amp to hang in there. voltage limitations, current limitations, lions, tigers, oh my.

a little more homework is required here.
