I am upgrading my speakers and I am looking at the Atlantic Technology System 270 THX system which comes with the two dipole speakers. Should I keep these speakers for the side speakers and get a third dipole for the center rear or should I replace all the dipoles with 3 of the 271 LRs??

I do like to listen to DTS audio CD's and DD music DVD so I am not sure if the dipoles will work good for me?

Any other suggestions?

That is what I was starting to think. Maybe I should change the order so that the two dipoles are replaced with the same speakers used for the left and right front and get a third one for the center rear so that all three rear speakers are the same? Any thoughts on that?

It would also depend on what processor you are using. I'm using all direct radiators in a 7.1 config with a Meridian unit. Some will say that you will be able to localize those surround speakers because of their radiating pattern, but I have to disagree. You would be hard pressed to localize my speakers in my properly setup acoustically treated room.

Dennis Erskine recommends dipolar speakers. I suggest you try both configs if your dealer will allow this.

Well I do not really have the processor yet http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif I am slowly working my way to seperates and have started collecting amps and I am using my Newcastle R945 at the pre/pro with a QSC EX 800 THX amp for the front mains.

To say that dipoles are not good for music is too much of a generalization I think.

Just the other day I was listening to Sting's DTS version of Brand New Day and much preferred it with dipoles. Granted, that was with Paradigms ADP speakers which have better low end than most: Theirs are dipolar but become bipolar under about 150-200Hz.
