Do any of the current inexpensive standalone DVD recorders (like the Panasonic and the Philips) support recording Dolby Digital through an optical or co-ax input?

No. There is no digital audio inputs on any DVD recordrs right now and there won't be for awhile.

Thanks for the response, even though it wasn't what I was hoping for. You wouldn't think that putting such an input on the box would be rocket science, so I guess this must be a result of entertainment industry pressure.
