Just wanted to post that I love HD-DVD. I have a Toshiba HD-A1 and run DD+ decoded via the A1 to external inputs on my pre-processor/amp. As clean as the video is with HDMI, audio is just superb on EMO ULs with onix rockets and SVS subwoofer.


Now to see what the PS3 can do via HDMI and optical audio (going to connect it for the first time tonight, and watch Terminator 2 and ice age 2).


Going to get a panasonic ax100u or 1000u soon to experience the full fledged video. I'm at 720P DLP (46") now and I'm ready to move int othe projector land.

No, the optical connection doesn't have enough bandwidth. You need an HDMI receiver to get the next generation audio formats.

Optical definitely has the bandwidth, there are other reasons why mpcm is not passed

I have to agree, I hava a similar setup and the sound rocks for DD+ and TruHD


A1 worth every peny and more.

The optical specification doesn't have the bandwidth or ever will.

My HD audio experience thus far has been poor. I loathe the fact that MS hasn't fixed the DD problem with the add-on drive
