Dead optical input on DA80ES

It appears that my Sony SAT-T60 killed one of my optical inputs on my Sony STR-DA80ES. My roommate was watching it the other night and the sound suddenly cut out. Since he knows better than to go digging through wires he just switched to watching the DVD. Last night I investigated and could get the T60 to work fine by moving it to another input, and was unable to get anything to work on the input I had been using for the T60 (tried DVD and HDTV).

My question is has any ever heard of anything like this? I didn't think it would be possible for the T60 to output something destructive across the fiber. If it was some kind of spike I would think it would have killed the T60 output as well.
