Hi Everyone, I need your help.

Last week I bought a Mitsubishi WS-73713 73 in. Rear Projection Television. Today I noticed what looks like a dead pixal, it's a black dot. I didn't even know that this type of TV could get that. I bought the 5 yr warrenty from Ultimate Electronics and I will give them a call when they open tommorrow. But the more I can learn from you guys before I call them the better.

I appreciate your help.

Something sitting on one of the lenses? If not debris or some type of object, maybe something faulty with one of the components. Dead pixel isn't possible. Do make sure it appears in every source though (i.e. cable feed and DVD player).

Yeah I tried it on multiple sources (dvd player and TV). I hope it is dust on the bulb or something like that. I am glad to hear it can't be a dead pixel but I hope it not something serious. I love this TV!

The reason I say it looks like a dead pixel though is the dot is perfectly lined up with the pixels around it. It looks like a dead pixel..

Anyone with any insight into what this is?

As chris said it's either debris from manufacturing on the lens or on the inside of the screen stack. Try a flick with your finger on the screen (not hard enough to mark it...cover your finger with a cloth)and see if it dislodges. Could also be stuck between panels of the stack.

CRTs don't have pixels like LCDs that can go bad. But I wonder if a defective phosphorous coating on one of the tubes could do this? More likely it's debris on the screen or tube or mirror.

The local Mits certified service company is coming out tommorrow. I talked to a guy at Ultimate who said he thinks it is dust on the mirror or the focus screen. I just find it odd that it is the size of one pixel. I will find out tommorrow and post back in case this ever happens to anyone else.
