Ok, I guess working 60hrs a week the past 2 yrs has put me behind the curve. I just found out about standalone HDD based direct video playback/recorders. Seems to me you could take your timeshifted movie or show off your PVR and transfer it to your 1TB HDD standalone and be done with it. Carry it to your computer and connect it via USB to make a backup of your HDD and you are set. These devices support a variety of formats and some offer many output options, HDMI, Component, S-Video etc. Looks like for the price of a mid level Standard DVD recorder you can make DVD's obsolete. Anybody using one of these to record off a PVR? Are they locked out or will they record anything a regular DVD will? What's the quality like?
I just bought 100 Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's a couple months ago but it wouldn't break my heart if I didn't have to use them!
