If I had $250 to spend, I would go with an Onkyo HT-S760 refurb from macmall.com or ecost.com. If you look around this forum, you will find an overwhelmingly positive response on this system. The speakers are on the big side, but so is the sound. I guarantee it will blow any other $250 system out of the water! And I bet you will see many people second my opinion. This will also give you a nice system that you can slowly upgrade if you would like.

Hey there! That looks like a nice system! I think I will give it a shot. But let me ask this, and forgive my ignorance (I am new!), what is the purpose of video inputs on a receiver?

Also, do you know if this Onkyo system is available in the "aluminum" look that is so popular right now (which is the same color as my dvd player, tv, tv-stand, etc :))

And to clarify, I'm sure I'm right, but this Onkyo does not include a DVD player right?

Regarding the video inputs, I've done some research just now, let me see if this is right. You could use the inputs to "combine" video sources. Like, say I have 10 components or whatever I want to use my tv's video for, but my tv is limited in video inputs, this allows me to input a lot of videos (say a set of composites for vcr and cable box or whatever), when I have VCR selected on my receiver, it will output the vcr's video to the TV. So this takes 2 or more or whatever videos and outputs the right one, thus using only one video input?

Obviously, we would only use this for the lower quality inputs (VCR, my cable box (For now ..... until voom comes on the 16th!), and say a wireless media server or whatever.

Exactly. It is to condense actual cables going into the TV so you can just do the switching with the Receiver. Unfortunately, there aren't any Silver ones out there that I could find. There is a new 770 model out but the silver will not ship until the end of the month. You can get this system from JR.com for $449 w/ free shipping. This is the actual system i have (in black). The specs are slightly better than the 760. I wanted silver because my TV etc are all silver but the black doesnt look bad. I just couldnt wait for the silver. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
