I have decided to sell my JVC mini-DV and Sony DVD301 camcorders and upgrade to one of the newer HD camcorders with hard drive.

Before I do, I want to back up all of my mini-DV and mini-CD videos into a standard DVD for storage.

What is the best way and easiest, cost effective way to do this?

Can I simply buy a DVD recorder, plug in the camcorders, and record that way? This sounds simple enough. I would hate to transfer video to computer and then to DVD...the easiest and fastest way the better.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Easiest, simplest, and quickest is to buy a standalone dvd recorder (dvdr). They come with (or without) certain features, some with firewire (dv) input, some with hard disc drive (hdd) highly, h i g h l y, HIGHLY recommended (but limited availability).

Check "DVD Recorders" under "Video components" in this forum for more than you'll want to know. Note- No High Def dvd recorders yet available in the US.

Even tho it's not a topic for this string, may I point out two advantages of having a dvdr with hdd? (I'll do it anyway!) 1. Editting. You can do a lot of editting with a hdd, selecting, combining, resequencing selected scenes or sequences (often called chapters) from any title or titles (each tape will probably be a "title" on the dvdr).

2. You can copy hdd to dvd at high speed, 2 hours at Standard Mode (SP), a full dvd, in 15 to 20 minutes.

Good Luck.
