It's pretty simple.
  • Take the case cover off
  • Unplug all your USB, Audio, and Jumper plugs
  • Undo the 3 screws up top behind the front bezel
  • Pop out the 3 tabs at the bottom behind the front bezel
  • Take bezel off and flip it over.
  • Undo about 15 or so screws to remove the front plate from it's "button" base
  • Sand the plate lightly w/ 400 or so grit sandpaper
  • Wash with liquid detergent to remove grease and sand, dry
  • Throw on 3-4+ light coats of flat black, let dry 30+ min
  • Reassemble

Flat black matches pretty well w/ the stock black top and sides of the case. As you can see however it doesn't match 100% w/ the Optical Drive I have. I may just shoot the drive w/ some flat black to even it all out.

I have customized many cases as well as my son's X-Box 360, nice job op! For those painting plastic black, I highly recommend using black automotive "vinyl dye" available at Advance Auto, O'reily's etc.

Works better than paint as it penetrates the plastic for a much stronger finish and is a thinner product than paint for a factory smooth finish "no orange peel" effect.

Thanks Mike for your step by step instructions. I will give it a shot this weekend to see how it goes.

Edit: May I also ask you one more questions? Can you tell me which spary paint you used for your application? Did you do any gloss?

Back when computers only came in beige, this was the only way to spice up a PC case. I sprayed a generic 486SX British racing green (with white racing stripes) and I swear it ran Doom faster afterward.

I did one of my old cases Ford Blue. It was as awesome as it was ghetto!

OP: Nice job on the finished product. Finishing that drive makes it look good.

That's how we did in the olden days when the only cases you could buy were beige.

You kids don't know how lucky you have it!
