Deciding between Paradigm Seismic 12 and Hsu VTF-3?

585 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  matti
I have an all Paradigm setup with Studio 100's front and rear and a CC-570 center. I've owned and enjoyed a VTF-3 make 1 for awhile now but I'm getting itchy to try something else and am considering either a VTF make 2 or the Paradigm Seismic? Anyone have any experience with either? Output/impact is probably the single most important consideration for me.

If you are going to upgrade your sub, make a significant improvement. Both the Paradigm and new VTF-3 will offer minor improvements over your current VTF-3. If anything, add one of these subs to your current VTF-3. Otherwise, save up your funds and get a sub that will offer a significant upgrade in performance.

Perhaps some room treatments or a parametric EQ would be another sub performance-related option?
Why not see if you can borrow a Paradigm Seismic sub and listen to that directly up against your current VTF-3 and see which meets your taste? The Seismic and VTF-3 M1 (or Mk2) will sound quite different so you need to listen before you know your taste under your acoustical conditions. If all you really just want is more SPL than the VTF-3 MK1 then stacking two subs can be the answer.

I actually have a pretty good deal lined up on a Seismic - I may just buy it and try it. The reviews it's getting are pretty solid. I'd really love to hear from other owners of it though?
You have to listen and compare subwoofers (and speakers for that matter) under the same acoustics to judge the differences. People's perceptions and their expectations are so vastly different that what sounds good to one listener, "may not" sound good to another. That's why the 30 day trial period that most direct companies offer (like Hsu Research), give you a much better chance of working through the process in comparing equipment. It's also where getting friendly with your local B&M dealer (to loan some competition) during the trial period can help you be 100% sure of you decision before parting with non refundable $$$.

Bringing home the Seismic tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be a good match for my room and tastes. Also just got my AVR507 back from being upgraded so the weekend should be fun. I'll try to report back, if anyone cares.
