My theater will be completed around Christmas. I was all set to purchase the sx21 until the delay was announced. I can get a used g15 and purchase a focus enhancements cs-1 scaler for about the same price. The g15 has less than 200 hours on it and has already been professionally calibrated.

From my standpoint, here are the relative strengths of each for my purposes:

sx21:

-New, not used

-Much cheaper operating costs

-Slightly higher resolution

-Better out-of-box contrast - future tweaking could improve even more (Dilard?)

-DVI port (but no hdcp)

g15:

-available now

- known commodity - incredible picture, no qc issues

- Xenon bulb = better color accuracy and no blue blacks (if they even exist)

Things that are even or don't matter in my environment:

-Heat and noise - separate projection room

-Contrast ratio - about equal after g15 calibration

-I currently have no use for DVI (DVD and HDTV both through component)

Any feedback or thoughts from the experienced here would be welcome.

If I were you I'd at least see the SX21 before making a decision.

FWIW I have an appointment with JVC Canada to audition the SX21 on Monday Dec 9th & I will post my findings if you want to wait. Still doesn't change the fact that they have a Feb release date.

Thats one hell of a price on a clean G15....

One thing I would mention though is you are comparing a calibrated G15 to an uncalibrated SX21 and saying the CR numbers are 'about equal'... Who is to say that once Milori or William Phelps or starts to get under the skin of the SX21 that there may not also be room for improvement...

Very true. You may get more out of the SX21. But, don't forget that in this case you are starting out with a $2000 price differential ( after calibration).

Something to think about.

Can you imagine finding these prices this side of the pond.

Tzucc: great deal. Very tempting....but I'll stick with my G1000 for now. You could always sell the scalar and ceiling mount if you don't need them and make the deal even sweeter.
