My theater will be completed around Christmas. I was all set to purchase the sx21 until the delay was announced. I can get a used g15 and purchase a focus enhancements cs-1 scaler for about the same price. The g15 has less than 200 hours on it and has already been professionally calibrated.
From my standpoint, here are the relative strengths of each for my purposes:
sx21:
-New, not used
-Much cheaper operating costs
-Slightly higher resolution
-Better out-of-box contrast - future tweaking could improve even more (Dilard?)
-DVI port (but no hdcp)
g15:
-available now
- known commodity - incredible picture, no qc issues
- Xenon bulb = better color accuracy and no blue blacks (if they even exist)
Things that are even or don't matter in my environment:
-Heat and noise - separate projection room
-Contrast ratio - about equal after g15 calibration
-I currently have no use for DVI (DVD and HDTV both through component)
Any feedback or thoughts from the experienced here would be welcome.
