I have a def tech reference sub with a bad amp and was wondering if I have to fix it or can I run it passive with the above equipment. I know I would lose a little functionality like phase and some crossover control but would gain a little power and an eq. My receiver is a Denon 3808.


Thoughts please?

It could be done, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The original amp probably had some built-in eq to flatten the response, therefore when just hooking up a different amp, the sub may not sound the same as before. Of course you can eq it with the SVS eq to make it sound the way you want. Also, the original amp probably had protective limiters to keep from damaging the driver from overexcursion. You now won't have those limiters and you will have more power on tap. Proceed with caution when cranking it up.
