Definitive Technology CS-9089, Discontinued??

1156 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  EMTAdam
Hey everyone. I have a CS 9060 and was thinking about moving up to the CS-9080 as all of my other speakers are from the 9080 line. But.... Bestbuy's site no longer shows the CS-9080. Only the cs-9040 and cs-9060. As is the case with Amazon. Did Def Tech discontinue the CS-9080 or do those 2 retailers just not carry that specific speaker anymore?

Friends don't let friends buy speakers with powered woofers, unless they are a fully-active powered speaker.
I’d run away from def tech until the tech support starts fixing stuff again ...
Get passive towers + a big sub for same price.
Tritons are overpriced too ... almost same as def technology

Still on the Def Tech site:
Only $999 too! But alas they are on backorder. That's probably why you don't seer them elsewhere.

I am invested into my Def Tech setup. I have had it for 3 years and only had 1 hiccup. I bought in before all the CS crap started and at this point dont want to go into full rebuild. Everything sounds great as is, so no real NEED to make changes. If I were just now entering the game, I wouldnt touch def tech with a 10ft pole.

glad it sounds good !!! 👌
It’s strange only two brands use this design of speakers , yet no one else has . Id imagine sub maker brands took the market back .?? Or something or subs in speakers never caught on .
Or impractical?

Im really not sure what the reason is. I think a lot of uneducated people think that buying a tower with built in subs means they do not need an external sub. When they realize that is not the case, they return them and change course. I never intended my 9080's subs to be the bass producer for the space. I keep them about 20% and let them just kinda fill the mid level. For the price, I think a lot of buyers that dont know any better, expected BIG BASS from them and when it didnt happen............... there goes the market.
