Currently i am in the process of putting together my HTPC. I have a few quick questions for my setup.

I have a 400sc dell, i just got with pent4 2.8 HT and no tv tuner card for it yet. it has also has a generic type video card.

i just got a dell 2300 projector.

i will be getting a sony da2000es receiver and speakers for it.

i have comcast high definition tuner box.

i would like to use either sagetv or mce2005.

The question is HOW DO I CONNECT ALL OF THESE?

i want to be able to use my htpc as a dvr. i also don't want to loose my signal quality from the comcast high def box by going into the pc and then out to the projector.

for dvds i will be using an external dvd player. the reciever will have 3 high def in, and 1 high def out so i can hook up the projector to the receiver and have everything go into the receiver (comcast, dvd etc). but then how would i dvr the digital cable channels on my htpc?

do i just need a tv tuner card? or do i need a video capture card?

a million questions....

You can connect the comcast HD cable box to your PC with a firewire cable and record HD shows that way.


I would also suggest investing some money in a good video card.

i did do that, but the quality was pretty crappy. on mine it keps skipping through the frames. when i do connect through firewire i still can't use sagetv .. i don't have mce2005 but does anyone know if it will show up as a source?
