Going to get the panny ed (finally made up my mind).

Dell is offering it (with shipping) for about $120 more than the best deal offered by the sponsers. I'd just as soon by it from Dell and spend the extra bucks. The question is on the warranties. With a warranty, the deal offered by dell doesn't look to good. Is the dell warranty better? Can I buy from dell and get a warranty somewhere else?

Thanks

Not too clear what you're talking about - do you mean extended warranties? They can be bought separately, but are a bad deal no matter how you buy them.

The only significant difference with Dell's basic warranty service is that they will allow you to return a plasma for any reason, no questions asked, for the first 30 days. Their policy is to charge you for return shipping, unless the plasma is defective in which case they will send a replacement and pay all shipping. AFAIK, this is equal to or better than any other online vendor.

The mfr's one year warranty service is handled by Panasonic, not the vendor, and should be the same no matter which online vendor you buy from. Many credit cards will extend the original warranty by a year, to a total of two years. IMO this offers pretty good protection and makes extended warranties an even bigger rip-off.

Also not sure why you'd "just as soon" buy from Dell, especially if they will charge $120 more. Search the Forum, and you will find many horror stories about dealing with Dell, especially if you contrast them with outfits like Visual Apex. I bought my plasma from Dell, but only because I saved over $300 by doing so. As is typical with Dell, I had to spend an hour or so on the phone to straighten out their several snafus, but figured it was worth it to save the $300. But I would certainly pick another dealer if their prices were the same as Dell's, let alone lower.
