Demon multi channel stereo question

3545 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  SoCalGuy-99
Hi all,

I use the multi channel stereo sometimes for music. I will be running a 7.2.4 setup. Will it play the music through the “7” or through the main 7 and the ceiling speakers I have in there for Atmos? I’d prefer it not to play through those since they’re cheap in ceiling speakers. Anyone know?

Also interested in knowing this!!!

Do the ATMOS speakers play in ALL ZONES STEREO, too?
Going forward, when posting a question regarding a Denon AVR, it's best to do two things: (1) Post your question in the respective year's Owner's thread that covers your particular model, and (2) List your particular model.

On 2017 and newer models, the SURROUND PARAMETER - SPEAKER SELECT setting factory defaults to "Floor + Height", so you would want to set it to "Floor".

On 2016 and older models, the SURROUND PARAMETER - SPEAKER SELECT setting factory defaults to "Floor", so no setting change required.
fair point. I know so little about this setting (other than using it on various units for the past 10 years) that I didn't even know there were any differences. I'm running denon 4400's so it's the latter. I guess that makes sense about having the option in the menu. Glad they thought of it!

thanks for the info!
To each their own - I'm a big fan of Denon's multi-channel sound option for casual music listening. I configure it with the center channel turned way down (-7.5dB) and the surround channels also turned down (-3.5dB) and for casual listening it sounds really good to me and fills the room with a more balanced sound as I move around the room doing stuff. I think Denon does the best of all the AVR's homegrown music modes. Other multi-channel music modes are either way too center channel focused or way too dispersed for me.

I thought the immersive speakers would make it sound even more balanced for casual listening but I still prefer the base 7 channel sound so I use "Floor" mode only without the "Height" mode engaged.

Although Multi-Channel Floor + Height mode is really good for parties as it does fill the whole house with a more balanced sound and makes it easier for everyone to talk no matter where they are standing/sitting.

Another good use case for Multi-Channel Floor + Height mode is parties with sports broadcasts - the 7 base channels do a great job equally broadcasting the announcer and the action of the game while the Height channels do a great job of providing ambient crowd noise. Where other multi-channel modes tend to put the announcer/game sounds upfront and the crowd noise in the surrounds where most people are sitting.

As I stated, to each their own - and I believe Denon has done a great job with their multi-channel sound and its configurability.
