Hey guys,

I've finally got a green light from my wife for the new plasma, I'm going with the commercial unit, and will need a decent sound system separately.

I am not big into great sound, never used the whole 5.1/6.1/7.1 or whathaveyou. All I need is something decent that would at the same time look good with the plasma and not take too much space. That's the reason also why I'm asking about the 2.1 package, as I really don't want to have the cables ran all over for all the speakers on those other systems and worry where and how to place (moutn) them.

I am also looking to confirm whether the component video out on the receiver has any quality impact to the picture. I know it depends on everyone's needs, but assuming I don't want to have multiple video cables ran to the TV/Plasma, and would prefer to have everything going thru the receiver, am I loosing anything on quality ?

So, is this Denon package any good ? Anything else out there that woudl do the trick ?

Thanks !

Everything you are describing is saying Bose 321 Series ll. I am one of the few on this forum that really do like the 321, the newer series ll 321 with component out. It sounds really good and the DVD picture quality is great.

I had the Bose mounted under my 46" plasma, a very cool look, great sound ( not true 5.1 but very close ) easy remote, great on-screen menus and no wires all over the place.

Anyhow, others will tell you not to get the 321, only problem is they have never owned one, some people on this forum like to bash Bose.

You can always get one and if ya dont like it take it back.

I checked out the Dennon 2.1 and was not impressed at all, the Bose was way better in every way.

Thanks for ther info.

Well, I'm still waiting for more people to respond and give their opinion.

I assumed being concious on how much I want to spend was a given.

It would seem the Bose system is almost twice as expensive as the

Denon. I suppose there is no easy way to figure it out, just need to

find some retailers and compare the two units.

Thanks again, and hopefully there are some other comparable systems

out there, but not more expensive than the Bose ?

i've never listened to the Denon 2.1 HTS, but i can comment on the Bose 3.2.1 HTS, i installed one for a friend of mine in her basement. it sounds ok, but i laugh everytime i think about the fact that she spent $999 on it, definitely not worth the money!

both the Bose unit and the Denon are low power...

the Bose Bass Module uses 5.25 drivers and the Denon uses one 6.25 driver to simulate a subwoofer, and neither are intended to be used as bass drivers...

the Denon has 3 digital inputs, and the Bose has NO digital inputs unless they changed it in the last year, this would be the only REAL difference worth anything that i noticed...

i don't think either are great choices, but if i HAD TO choose between them, i would go with the Denon system myself...

you should look at this article before you purchase anything from Bose, that way you could see exactly what they're made out of, and you could see how much it's REALLY worth and how good it's REALLY going to sound...

Sorry, I have to disagree, first off you said the Bose you installed had no digital inputs, I have owned the older series l 321 and the newer series ll 321, they BOTH HAD 3 digital inputs, since you say you installed one for a friend I would think you would have noticed this.

You say $999 is not worth the money, I would disagree again, as I purchased one and owned one I would say it was worth it, what was worth it was no wires all over the place, easy remote, great sound, on screen menus and the cool factor of the way it looks with my plasma.

The Bose is low power, OK, so what if it is, if you dont feel the need to blow the doors off the house then who cares if its low power, I never had to turn the volume up full blast on my 321 to get a nice rich full clean sound.

You then make point of the size of the bass drivers and place a link for that Bose review that we have all seen a million times.

I could care less how big or small the bass drivers are, what I did care about was how good and well defined the bass sounded in my room, I was always very pleased.

I also thought it was very cool the way friends would come over to watch a movie and comment on how great the Bose sounded, and then they would ask were are the rest of the speakers (that happened EVERY TIME).

The link (review, a persons opinion) talk about the kind of paper used to make the speakers,,,,,,again,,,I could care less if they used Zig Zags to make the speakers,,,they sound great, thats what I care about.

You have proved my point, most Bose bashers have never really owned a Bose or spent time with one, they just jump on the Bose bashing bandwagon and make comments on something they have never owned.

On this forum I only post and make comments on equipment I have owned and have personal experience with, it is very unfair to slam a product without full knowledge of that product. I have never owned the Dennon system thats why my only comment about it was to say I had heard it in the store and was not impressed. I wish some on this forum could be a little more open minded and base their opinions and advice to others based on fact and personal experiences,,,Ohhh well,,, call me a dreamer.

Get the 321 and take it back if you dont like it, also, check out the Niro systems, I have never heard one, so I will not comment on it but others that have "owned the Niro" have posted good reviews on it.

it was over a year ago, before it came with a progressive scan dvd player, but i didn't notice any digital inputs on the back. i don't know why i would have missed them, especially since her cable box has a coax digital out and i would have used that over the analog audio out that she uses now, but i will look at it next time i'm over her house and get back to you...

Cool,,,and by the way "FIVE ONE SIX" I did not mean to sound rude or harsh to-wards you at all, its just that there is so much Bose bashing on this forum and I just get a little irritated about it sometimes as I am one of the people on this forum that own Bose products and really do like them.

Also, "henryd31", there a a few other 2.1 systems to look at besides the Bose , Denon and Niro, there is also the Z-VOX (now sold at BestBuy) or is that the same thing as the SoundMatters, gee, I just went blank on that.

Anyhow, SoundMatters or Z-VOX might deserve a look see.

davyo, i wasn't trying to bash bose, and i appologize if it looked that way. the main reason i posted it was just to show that they're clearly overpriced, but i realize now that's not how is sounded, so like i said i appologize for sounding like i was trying to bash them...

my friend that i was talking about above is the only person i know with a bose system, it's a 3.2.1 system, and i PERSONALLY don't like it. i know opinions vary, and the fact that you like yours is fine, what YOU like is the ONLY thing that should REALLY matter when YOU choose YOUR equipment.

and to the original poster, good luck with whatever you choose. like i said above, the ONLY thing that should matter is what YOU like, not what someone else likes...
