I need some advice if it would be worthwhile purchasing the sony ns75h.

I am currently using the denon 2200 with a samsung lnr3228w.

Thanks for any response,

knpm

I wish I could help because I have a 2200 and the NS75H, but they're connected to different TVs so I haven't done a direct comparison. I guess I could unhook everything from the 2200 and move it for a test, but I'd prefer to leave well enough alone.

If you're looking for improvement over the 2200, I'd recommend saving your money and holding on until the HD format wars get sorted out. One obvious difference is that the NS75H has a visible layer change (not too bad though) that you've probably got used to not seeing with your 2200.

If your 2200 isn't working anymore, you'd probably be happy with the NS75H. I have the NS75H on a 32" Sharp LCD and really like the picture quality. I've tried several DVD players that I've returned for various reasons, but the 2200 and NS75H both were keepers for me. I've also set up the NS75H on a 43" plasma for my dad and it was excellent on that too.

With HD-DVD players already available and BR players coming out soon, I wouldn't waste money "upgrading" to the Sony for very marginal improvement, if any. You'd be better off upgrading to the Toshoba HD-DVD player, which not only plays HD-DVDs but also upscales SD DVDs (and does a better job at upscaling than the Sony).

Based on posts from owners. Many have written that it is as good for upscaling as the Sony 9100ES and the Pioneer 59ai/79ai, although the Secret's review (which I just read) was not as favorable. My main point is that regular upscaling players may not be the best way to go at this point in time since true high def players are now here, especially since the OP already has an excellent progressive scan Denon player.

I can testify to that fact. The Toshiba HD-A1 is a better upscaling SD-DVD player than the Sony 75H if we're talking about picture quality, however, the Toshiba is very slow and patience is required to use it. I sent my 75H back after I got the HD-A1.

Thank you Bill. It's REALLY good to hear that the upscaling capabilities(of SD discs) of the HD players is fairly stellar. I hope that trend continues? :)
