I got this receiver thinking this would be perfect for outdoor speakers.  The speakers are hard wired... I just realized that zone 2 is pre-out which I believe means there's no amplification for the speakers and is why my speakers are not playing.

 

So what kind of speakers do people normally get for the pre-out?  Do I need to by an amplifer for my outdoor speakers?  Please help this is frustrating!

If you only have a 5.1 or less setup in the main zone, the Surround Back speaker posts default to Zone 2. Note that Zone 2 is on board sources (networking) and analog externally connected sources only, unless using the All Zone Stereo setting with an HDMI source.
