I have my Denon connected to 3 displays. My main Sony TV, projector and an LG zone 2 TV and I don't see what you're describing.
Well, good to know someone else is running multiple displays successfully. The last hope that I have is to replace those source HDMI cables in hopes that is where the problem stems from. Unless I have the same issue with multiple cables though, I had similar issues last night with my Blu-ray player so I am not holding high hopes that will fix it. Any other troubleshooting suggestions are welcome.I have my Denon connected to 3 displays. My main Sony TV, projector and an LG zone 2 TV and I don't see what you're describing.
Mike, do you always have your two displays on in zone 1 simultaneously? If so, would you mind leaving one off and seeing if you have the same problem? I have now tested just having the projector plugged in alone and so far it is solid, so that takes out the cables as being the problem again. At this point I am baffled, Denon has escalated the problem, I wonder if there is not some kind of incompatibility like Augie mentioned.I have my Denon connected to 3 displays. Never mind Mike, I just tried with both displays on and they both flash out and back still.Mike, do you always have your two displays on in zone 1 simultaneously? Wow man, that is much worse than my problem. At least I can swap which individual one is plugged in without problem. I have ordered an HDMI splitter to just go from the single receiver output that will then be duplicated to both displays. It can pass through HDCP or based off of the two displays abilities supply it's own. We will see if that fixes the problem. I'm wondering if this use case is just niche enough it isn't tested.I have a Denon X6200 and I have my TV and my projector both plugged into outputs 1 and 2. My TV won't display any picture unless my projector is turned on also. I can not get any sound from my X6200 from Pandora or the Tuner unless I first turn on my projector and then power the projector back down. Basically while the projector is plugged in to the HDMI output, it has to be powered on for anything else to work!!!
I can swap them. It's just that as long as the projector is connected at all... It demands to be running before allowing the receiver to perform. I can disconnect the projector and everything runs as it should.Wow man, that is much worse than my problem. At least I can swap which individual one is plugged in without problem. Thanks, they are both 4k although the Sony is true 4k and the TV is the 3840x, still no reason I can think of for this problem. The cables are all certified and like I said, they work on their own. When connecting more than 1 display to an AVR's HDMI output, the HDMI output will be done @ the lowest resolution setting of the connected displays. Also note some handshake issues may arise if any of the displays are not HDMI certified and may have different timing specs...

Sounds like a good work around, I saw the quick select options in the web GUI, how do you configure and select them with the remote or with Google if you've played with that? Possible to add a few screenshots maybe, seems this workaround might help quite a few folks in this thread? I'm surprised the amount of people with this problem and Denon not doing anything about it even on their newest receivers.I see the same thing with my 4700 + Samsung TV + JVC projector. With both plugged in, and either one on Standby, the other wouldn't work reliably.
The only sensible solution I could find was to use the Quick Select settings on the Denon. So now my Quick Select 1 has only HDMI 1 (the eArc one) enabled, which is for my TV viewing. Quick Select 2 has only HDMI 2 (monitor) enabled, which is for my projector. Quick Select remembers a bunch of other settings, such as the input as well. Turns out this is a real nice way to handle this.
Okay I'll give it a shot, but I'm pretty sure during my troubleshooting I tried selecting just monitor 1 and monitor 2 with the same flashing picture, but I've found I have to power cycle to get it to stop and I may not have done that so I'll give it a shot, thanks again man. Thinking about it, I wonder if in harmony if I couldn't just have it select monitor 1 or monitor 2 during the startup of an activity so it's automatic? It's simple. Just change your settings to the configuration you want, such as change the HDMI to be output to HDMI 1 only, and press and hold the Quick Select 1 button on the remote to store the settings. Then change your settings and press and hold on Quick Select 2.
There's information in the manual on what it saves. This is for the 4700: Changing the settings AVR-X4700H
I've no idea how this works with Google automation.
Yep. FWIW all of quirks I've had with my Denons regarding displays and input sources that would logically seem to be HDMI cable issues were actually "settings" and "input" issues. The Denon's are quirky for sure and the manual just is not helpful in this regard. Here's what I'd do....after making sure every HDMI cable is good, do a factory reset, make sure you completely understand the options in the input assignments menu and settings. Make sure your TV and PJ settings are correct and not set/or sending conflicting "control" signals to your AVR, and then reconfigure your AVR as if you were setting it up for the first time. Yes CEC is off for all devices, one of the first troubleshooting steps I took, but that did not effect the outcome. I think they just have some shortcomings when it comes to simply splitting the HDMI signal. I will be moving off of both Denon and Marantz in the next 6-7 months. I am researching a few other brands now, but will likely move to Arcam and a separate amp even though it will be expensive.Yep.
